I am Dr Joe Chen, a psychiatrist with particular expertise in the mental health care for those between the ages of 16-65. Most patients and families call me 'Joe' or 'Doctor Joe'. Feel free to read on if you want to know a little bit more about me. I look forward to meeting you at this delicate and sensitive time and offer my expertise.

Dr Joe Chen is an experienced psychiatrist who is respected by patients and colleagues for his compassion and clinical acumen. Dr Chen has an excellent professional reputation and has worked across a number of settings in mental health. He has a special interest in general adult psychiatry, working with individuals to understand where they have come from, and the challenges and struggles along the journey. Dr Chen's clinical interests include individual therapy, working with challenges due to mood, anxiety, trauma and psychotic symptoms as well as assessing and working with individuals with neurodiversity such as ADHD.

Dr Chen was previously the director of psychiatry training at Peninsula Health and worked as a consultant psychiatrist with Alfred Health and Headspace. He now focuses on working with patients in private settings.

Dr Chen is a medical graduate from the University of Queensland and registered with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. He commenced his psychiatric training at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane and subsequently trained with Monash Health and St Vincent’s Health, Melbourne. He completed his Advanced Training while working in emergency and acute psychiatric settings across various states, including VIC, QLD, SA and WA.
